Sikkim turmeric carries a GI protection. Cultivated in chemical-free terraced loam below the ridge, mountain-grown turmeric develops significantly higher curcumin concentrations than commercial lowland crops. Hand-harvested after winter, boiled, sun-dried, and coarsely ground in traditional village stone mills.
